The Shropshire LAwn Tennis Association annual awards ceremony has recently recognised the outstanding achievements of two Baschurch Tennis club members:

Sarah Hardie, Head Coach at the club, was described as the heart of the club in keeping junior members connected and active through lockdown and putting on free member Family cardio tennis sessions to encourage households to enjoy tennis under the Covid safe rules. Sarah puts the fun into tennis at every age and level whilst being fully Covid compliant.

Taylor Youens won the award young volunteer of the year after helping the club as part of his Duke of Edinburgh award and proving to be a great asset as a valued helper in junior sessions and volunteer in the festival of tennis.

Both beat off stiff competition from all clubs in the county to win this prestigious award in a difficult year for tennis play and competition and the club is very proud that their selfless enthusiasm for grass roots tennis has been recognised.

About us
We are a family-friendly club in the north Shropshire village of Baschurch, around 8 miles north west of Shrewsbury, and currently have approximately 130 members.  We are open to players of all ages and abilities, and welcome enquiries from prospective new members.
Based at Church Lane in Baschurch, we have two floodlit hard-surfaced courts, plus a clubhouse.  Courts have recently been repainted. The surrounding area has been designed to facilitate wheelchair access. For the competitive player, we enter Men's and Ladies' teams in the Shropshire Inter-Club Doubles Summer League, and also have three mixed teams that take part in the Winter league. There is no obligation however to play matches, and many members are happy to play their tennis at a social level with friends and family.

We are fortunate to benefit from the services of club coach Sarah Hardie, and offer tennis lessons to those aged 3 and  over. For the children, our aim is to provide a fun and safe environment in which they can learn skills and tactics and develop a real love of the game before eventually progressing to tennis "proper".
In addition to the playing side, members can apply for Wimbledon tickets through the club, and we also run occasional social events that are always well supported.
Baschurch Tennis Club is committed to prioritising the well-being of all children and adults at risk, promoting safeguarding in our club at all times, including all programmes and events we run. This Policy strives to minimise risk, deliver a positive tennis experience for everyone and respond appropriately to all safeguarding concerns/disclosures.
Our club Chair & Welfare Officer is Fi McGeevor (right).

We are proud to have a Diversity and Inclusion Policy that demonstrates our commitment to making tennis diverse and inclusive. The commitment to Diversity and Inclusion is upheld by all - Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), Tennis Scotland, Tennis Wales and the Tennis Foundation. These commitments are fully supported by the Baschurch Tennis Club Committee. For more information about our general code of conduct please see Club Conduct & Admin Policies or for more specific detail see Safeguarding, Diversity & Inclusion

Baschurch was also among the first clubs in Shropshire to obtain the LTA Clubmark registration - for details please click on the Clubmark logo above.
